Do Your Circumstances Affect Your Success?

There are two types of circumstances: those you can control and those you can’t.

The way you view these two types of circumstances, and especially your mindset for approaching the circumstances you can’t control, directly affects your threshold for success.

I could give you a hundred examples of how incredible people and businesses were birthed from difficult, almost impossible circumstances. I could also give you examples of great, successful businesses that came from sustainable, well-off circumstances.

It is not the situation itself that has the control over the outcome. It’s how you view the circumstances and ultimately it is you who has complete control over how those circumstances affect your success.

Maybe you think that you don’t let your circumstances control your success. Let me ask you a question.

How much time do you spend thinking about things that are outside of your control?

This could be anything. The global economy, national politics, your competition, your past.

I think about these things often as well, but I recognize that most of these things are outside of my control.

I would guess that about 90% of the circumstances in our lives are not within our control. Why then, do we spend most of our time consumed with that 90%?

Focus on the 10%

What if we spent all of our time and energy focused on what we can control? I can tell you exactly what will happen because I’ve been doing it the last three years.

You will start to see huge results.

You’ll find that the amount of time and energy you spent focused on things outside of your control was actually a lot more than you imagined. When you narrow your focus to the things that really matter, the things that you really can change and influence, you will see the change happen.

But How?

How do you determine which circumstances are in your 10%? You ask yourself these 3 questions:

Is there something I can do today that will make an impact or difference in this problem or situation?

If I put my efforts and skills towards this situation, could I see a noticeable difference in one month?

Is this really important to me?

If you can answer yes to those questions, you’ve found something in your 10%.

After you’ve found your 10%, begin to take action on those things.

What will you do TODAY to get one step closer to finding your 10%? Let me know in the comments below.
